Sql Registration Error -Communication link failure

Hi all, When i tried to connect to Database server from Sql client enterprise manager,i m getting the following error.
"sql server registration failed because of the connection failure displayed below.Do u wish to modify anyway? " Communication link failure.
Can anybody help me out ?.What does that mean "Communication Failure". I have not made any changes in the Database Server or Login accounts.I have tried reinstalling Sql Client. Raja.K

Hi, I tried,but could not find the way out.Actually by default Tcp/IP and Named Pipe has been enabled.Or else do i have to do any setting changes in General or Alias or DB-Library options or Network Libraries .I m using sql 2000. Regards.

Use client network Utilities, define a server with alias same than real name.
Try first with Name pipes and if not work then TCP.

No Mate,i tried with both and it is not working.But with the same machine i am able to connect to other Database servers.Any other Possible options….
If you try with all protocols and you are using sa user, the only thing came to me is to reisntall clients tools.

ok cool, Now i found out that it happens only from that specific client machine.So i hope there is nothing to do with the server side.This is a very critical issue for me now and help me out with some other options.
Now when i use the namedpipe i get the follwoing error<br /><br />A connection could not be established to &lt;Database server Name&gt;<br /><br />Reason<img src=’/community/emoticons/emotion-7.gif’ alt=’:s’ />ql server does not exist or access denied<br />connectionopen (connect()…<br /><br />Please verify sql server is running and check your sql server registration properties<br /><br /><br />I am using the sa account……..
????? Only from a specific client machine…..Have you tried pinging the SQL Server from that box? Start….Run….Type "cmd"….Type ping servername.
