starting replication

when I create a merge replication between 2 databases that have some difference in some tables PRIOR to replication, when merge agent starts, are the differences synchronized, i.e., are the updates made on a table brought on the corresponding table on the replicated database ?
(it seems they arenb’t – is it correct ?)
many thanx

BOL (Books online) defines:
The Merge Agent applies the initial snapshot jobs held in the publication database tables to the Subscriber. It also merges incremental data changes that occurred at the Publisher or Subscribers after the initial snapshot was created, and reconciles conflicts according to rules you configure or a custom resolver you create.
Review BOL for additional information.
