time service

I’m getting a application warning in the event viewer that states "The description for Event ID ( 22 ) in Source ( TimeServ ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer". I read from another site that you should turn off the time service on the cluster and microsoft is working on a fix.

The message is benign IF you are seeing this on Windows 2000 servers attached to a Windows NT4 domain. Otherwise you do have a problem, since Windows 2000 and Windows 2003 domains rely heavily on time synchronisation with a central server and possibly an external atomic clock. Cheers
Twan PS I would just ignore the message rather than turning off services. Joining the servers to a Windows 2000/2003 domain will also remove the message

The cluster is a windows 2000 and the Domain is windows 2003

and no other w2k/w2k3 servers in the w2k3 domain report this problem? Can you check that the Windows Time service is running on the DCs? Cheers

The time service in the cluster is not needed if you are in a windows 2000/2003 domain. It’s only needed if you are in an NT domain with your windows 2000 cluster. It is actually recommended to remove the time service from the cluster if you are in a 2000/2003 domain: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;279005

I am getting this exact same error! Information:
Error occuring on both servers in the cluster
Servers are joined to a 2003 Domain
Time service is NOT part of the cluster resources
Windows Time Service IS running on all Active Directory PDC’s
PDC’s are 2003; SQL servers are 2000 Can anybody help me get rid of this?

As mentioned by Argyle, MS recommend that you remove the time service from the cluster Cheers

FYI:
TimeServ = Cluster Time Service
W32Time = Windows 2000 Time Service. If you get the exact same mesasge as above from TimeServ it means you haven’t removed it.
