Upgrading Default instance to Cluster Instance

Hi all, We have SQL Server default instance running on windows 2000 advanced server with both sql server executables and database files stored on local hard disk [raid 1 enabled]. As part of creating cluster environment, we have installed Microsoft cluster services with SAN as shared resource and tested it thoroughly. Now to upgrade current default instance to cluster instance we ran the SQL server 2000 setup. But the option ‘Upgrading existing default installation to cluster installation’ is disabled. What might be the problem?

While there may be other options in the case you are facing, I would first uninstall SQL Server, then reinstall it as a cluster. —————————–

I presume you’re on latest service pack on SQL server. Applying the service pack to the default instance and then upgrading to the clustered instance does not add the proper disk dependencies. To add the proper disk dependencies, you must install the service pack after the upgrade to the clustered instance. I was in similar situation for one of the service at our end, I followed the way referred by Brad which was finished without any glitch. Satya SKJ
