Severity level:
16.

Description:
This error message appears when you try to use an invalid option or parameter for the sp_dboption system stored procedure.

Consequences:
The T-SQL statement can be parsed, but causes the error at runtime.

Resolution:
Errors of the Severity Level 16 are generated by the user and can be fixed by the SQL Server user. The statement cannot be executed this way. sp_dboption only accepts the expected mandatory or facultative parameters.

Versions:
All versions of SQL Server.

Example(s):
USE Northwind;
EXEC sp_dboption N’Northwind’, ‘read only’, ‘TREU’

Remarks:
In the above example we try to call sp_dboption with the invalid value of ‘TREU’. This raises the error.
