Cannot find a table or object with the name “%.*ls”. Check the system catalog.

Severity level:
16.

Description:
This error message appears when you try to use a non-existant database object in a DBCC command.

Consequences:
The T-SQL statement can be parsed, but causes the error at runtime.

Resolution:
Error of the Severity Level 16 are generated by the user and can be fixed by the SQL Server user. The statement cannot be executed this way. The database object must exist in order to be used in a DBCC command.

Versions:
All version of SQL Server.

Example(s):
DBCC DBREINDEX (‘sys.object’)

Remarks:
In the above example we try to use the DBCC DBREINDEX command for the non-existant sys.objects database object. This raises the error.
