Severity level:
16.

Description:
This error message appears when you try to execute an invalid operation for an object.

Consequences:
The T-SQL statement can be parsed, but causes the error at runtime.

Resolution:
Errors of the Severity Level 16 are generated by the user and can be fixed by the SQL Server user. The statement cannot be executed this way. The operation must be defined for the context of the database object.

Versions:
All versions of SQL Server.

Example(s):
USE Northwind;
DROP ROLE db_ddladmin;

Remarks:
There can be many potential causes for this error. As an example, we try to drop the fixed database role db_ddladmin from the Northwind database. This raises the error.
