There was an unexpected failure during the setup wizard. You may review the setup logs and/or click the help button for more information
64 bit editions of Operating Systems utilising 64-bit processors have become the standard for systems ranging from the most scalable servers to desktop PCs. SQL Server has also evolved so that from SQL Server 2000 onwards you can now take advantage of 64 bit computing.
When installing SQL Server X64 edition you may encounter an error such as an unexpected failure during the setup. As usual you should look at the SQL Server error log in addition to directory for the setup logs which is "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\LOG\Files". If you receive the following error:
Error Code: 0x80070643 (1603)
Windows Error Text: Fatal error during installation. Source File Name: packageengine\installpackageaction.cpp
You should check whether the media used to install the SQL Server binaries is consistent, as any corruption to the DVD disks or hard disks will hamper the setup. This problem occurs because the folders that contain the files that are required during the installation of SQL Server 2005 do not have a correct layout.
