I use the SQL Server 2008 Management Studio for very simple and basic database backups.
    (Right-click DB name, then tasks/backup)
I now need to perform a
backup of the DB, and place it on a different box that only runs SQL Server 2005. Can I backup in 2008 so that it
can be restored on 2005? If so, how can I do that - that is to say, can I tell the man.studio that this will be a DB
that is backward compatible to 2005?
    Thanks for any response!

You can't restore the backup of SQL 2008 to 2005 OR 2000, it is by design...
You can restore from lower version to highier but not highier to lower...
Only option would be SSIS/DTS or Replication or bcp etc...

Thanks - I suspected that, and you confirmed it!! It helps me a lot to know that!
