I have a really stupid question to ask. My manager needs to know the minimum permissions required for a user to be able to backup the database. He also needs to be ensured that with those permissions the login doing the backup won't be able to view any part of any data.
I told him that adding the login that will be used to run the backups to the db_backupoperator role is sufficient for this. My question is will this login be able to view any data? I just need to make double sure as the data in the affected databases will be very sensitive.

Doesn't look like you'll be able to. I just tried it with a test login, and although I can see tables and other objects, I could not look at the data in the tables.
