I want to try out different Free SQL Server tools. So far, I find the following:

    Idera - SQLcheck 2.0
Quest - Toad for SQL Server
Quest - Quest Central for SQL Server (Freeware Edition)

How are these free tools? What are the main benefits using them instead of the tools in SQL Server 2000?

What other free tools are available?

    Thank you,

    Peter

http://www.sql-server-performance.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=4166 for information on SQL Server tools & feedback.

I would go with Quest software and ensure to test them on test environment.
Until unless you have a major advantage by using them, I don't deploy them on the production environment.

We have a paid version of quest central and quite like it. So far we've had no problems (we use mostly the spotlight monitoring dashboard tool).

That said, treat any free tools with caution. Use only in dev environment and consider them evaluation copies only.

    Thank you for the advice.<br /><br />I only use them in development environment.<br /><br /><br />Satya,<br /><br />Thank you for the link. I especially like the link to MCDBA Directory since I'm starting to work on my MCDBA.[<img src='/community/emoticons/emotion-2.gif' alt=':D' />]<br /><br /><br /><br />Peter<br /><br />

    Hi,

I've been using an evaluation version of Lumigent LOG Explorer, and its a fantastic tool to recover lost datas and online Log file monitoring.
Download and evaluation copy at http://www.lumigent.com

I think Log explorer working fashion is different from tools mentioned by Peter.
