Have managed to allow users to generate their reports via their network id and passwords. But would like to make some reports "open" in the sense that no id or password is required within our company.

Any simple example would be appreciated since have spent much time trying to create roles but to no avail.

In either the shared data source properties for your report or the data source tab for the individual report in Report Manager, supply the credentials to be used when executing the report and select the "Credentials stored securely in the report server" radio button. This can be a SQL or windows login. When a user accesses the report, it is these credentials that will be used to access the data rather than the users.
