I have just migrated (restore) sql server from an XP machine to a win server 2003 machine. All the hardware on the win server 2003 machine is much better than the one on the XP.
When I tested I got weired results. The insert was 7 times slower!!! on the win server 2003 machine. Even more weired was the fact the a select statement I ran was much faster on the win server 2003 than the XP (the other way round here.... 20 times faster).
I use ADO.NET from a C# code and tried inserts with batch statement, stored procedure, bulk insert and using a disconnected adapter, all showing the same result - the inserts are much slower.
Another thing - no network issues as i ran it from different machine and even when the machine i ran it from (meaning the client side) was the win server 2003 machine i still got the same result (around 5.5 slower than the XP).
What do you say of that? I was expecting a better performance of inserts in the win server 2003 and got 7 times slower...
    Thanks,
    Dror
