I'm preparing to install SP3. I noticed in the installation notes that there are two information gathering tools available.
The first one is called: Authentification Mode. The second one is called: Remote Authentification.
    Question:
Can I run those two tools WITHOUT actually installing the Service Pack or making any unwanted changes.
I don't have a test environment that is clustered and I really don't want to mess this up.
    Thanks

I don't any of these tools info in ReadMe file of SP3...
When you install the sp3, during installation you have to specicy the authentication widows or sql...it is better to use windows...
I will not do any test on production cluster, but before installation make sure you have the backup of system and user databases and replication scripts etc...before you proceed.

Where did you get that information about those tools?
Those 2 sounds like authentication mode you need to select to connect SQL instance.
