Is it possible to change the named instance to default instance ?

    Hi,
    Is it possible to change the named instance to default instance SQl server2005, by editing some registry or file ?

    Hi,
    I think my question is bit confused!! Let me explaint clear
    I have a named instance SQL 2005 server , say [ServerName1InstanceName1] and i tried to avoid the instance name [InstanceName1], since i am not going to install more than one sql server in my server, so i would like to remove the instance name from the installed server. So my question is, without a fresh installation can we able to do it?
    I go through the link which you mentioned, it is moreover specified to renaming the server rather than instance deletion..

    use following
    sp_dropserver nameofinstance
    sp_addserver machinename,'local'
