(Newbie) % Disk Time Question

I'm expecting this counter to range between 0-100%, and everything I've read seems to indicate this is a reasonable expectation.
However, Perfmon is reporting values much higher, in the 10's of thousands.
How can a disk be more than 100% busy?
I thought it could be due to the RAID array, so I tested it on my (single disk) home system and, again, saw values well over 100%.

Thanks in advance for any insight you can offer!!

Thanks for that article link, it was excellent, explained some very fundamental things about disk counters that I've never really understood properly.
