    hi gurus, can you guys recommend me , some of the important counters to be set
    by using performance monitor to monitor and improve the overall performance
    of our system.

    Buffer cache hit ratio is a good one. Reads and writes per second, page life expectance, cpu utilization, etc. It you want a free tool that displays this information on a dashboard, then check out my free "SQL Server DBA Dashboard" tool at WWW.SQLSERVEREXAMPLES.COM.

    CPU: %Time.
    Physical Disks: Avg. Disk queue length.
    Memory: Pages/sec
    SQL Server: Memory manger: Total and Target Memory.
