Can the transaction log of a principal database in a database mirror partnership be shrunk without breaking the mirroring?

Yes, you can shrink it, however it is not good practice. What you need to do is you need to create a Log Backup job and run it frequently to keep your log file in shape.

Hi Ghemant - OK at least we now know we can shrink the transaction log on the principle database in the mirror partnership safely without breaking the mirror. I am assuming shrinking is not best practice because maintaining the transaction log size by backing it is 'better'. Please let me know if this is not your view.

Yes, I agree. Keep running log backup every few minutes to maintain log file size in good shape.
