For all the joy you can read on:
What did you want to say?
...lately the MSDN & Technet seems very busy with many subscribers panicking to download , I have been waiting since last night to download below 2GB file with many timeouts ... not a good sign.
I somehow got it downloaded. Unfortunately, I couldn't install it. It says I need to install Visual Studio 2008 Sp1. (Which is still in Beta). This is the error message I got:
Rule "Previous releases of Microsoft Visual Studio 2008" failed.
A previous release of Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 is installed on this computer. Upgrade Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 to the SP1 before installing SQL Server 2008.
Microsoft suggests that we should not include components which depends on Visual Studio 2008. (BI development studio, Analysis Services & Integration Services)
Better to wait for some time to get VS2008 Sp1 to install those components.
True, the VS SP1 will be released soon.... may be next week.
VS2008 Sp1 is available now, starting date 08-11-2008
...and to make it complete: The express edition is also now available for download.
I faced a problem when installing sql express 2008 , i want to summarise it with solution:
- the software need .net 2 sp2 to be installed, which is not available in microsoft site.
I downloaded .net 3.5 sp1 which resolved the problem
- i instaleed in place sql2008 (the machine with sql 2005) , and SSMS can not connect (it say it can connect only to 2000/2005)
i found that sql server 2008 express tools become available now for download:
i downloaded for SSMS 2008
- uninstall SSMS 2005
- when starting installing SSMS 2008 , i faced the error " had to instal VS2008 sp1"
Oh, long trouble journey.
so my advice:
install sql express 2008 on machine not having any previous version of sql server and with vs2008 to avoid troubles.
