Updating the fulltext index is slow

Hi
When inserting into a table using fulltextsearch which tracks changes, the index is not searchable until 20-60 seconds afterwards.
This is regardless of using update in background or update_index
Is there any kind of switch to optimize this time?

I don't think there is any switch which will improve perfomance...it could be resource availability issue...
