SQL Stripes for SQL Server

The general configuration window is shown in the following screen shot:

As you can see, the right-side “Apperance” options are self-explanatory. For example, “Remember Windows Position” will resize SQL Stripes to the last used configuration. If you want to check for a newer version of SQL Stripes, you can click on the “Automatically Check for New Versions” option, assuming you have an Internet connection available.

Next on the list, you can configure file and folder locations to save the alerts log, or to open SQL Server applications:

On the default SQL Stripes screen where the SQL Server programs list is displayed, you can define the path or use the “Auto Detect” button to set the path. For HTML report output, you can use either the default path, such as “Program FilesSQL Stripes…”, or your own path .

For the Remote Connectivity option, you can configure Terminal Services, along with other remote access tools.

The Terminal Services screen resolution can be set to the user workstation screen, or you can choose to use the current windows display configuration.

The FTP Server feature in SQL Stripes is used to transfer log files to an external or internal server where some or all of the intranet or extranet users on the network can obtain the files for their information.

The core SQL Stripes configuration window comes next:

SQL Stripes can be configured to alert if a basic ping test against a SQL Server fails with “host destination unreachable” or “request timed out” messages.
Also, you can define a default SQL Server timeout, or manual value, to timeout for any SQL Server. When this option is used, it is effective on all SQL Servers. From the configuration screen above for the “Hard Disks Options” alert, by default SQL Stripes reports free and used space on the configured hard disks. You can set this option to get only free space information or set it to “Do not check.” As a secondary setting to this feature, you can monitor all the drives on the server, use default databases and logs drives only, or include information from the system root drive, which is “C:” by default. In addition, you can configure SQL Stripes to log a warning message if free disk space on the hard drive falls below 15%, or a set MB value.
