Msg 10109, Level 16, State 1, Line 2
Cannot create %S_MSG on view “%.*ls” because it references derived table “%.*ls” (defined by SELECT statement in FROM clause). Consider removing the reference to the derived table or not indexing the view.
This error message appears when you try to create an index on a view that references a derived table.
The T-SQL statement can be parsed, but causes the error at runtime.
Errors of the Severity Level 16 are generated by the user and can be fixed by the SQL Server user. The statement cannot be executed this way. Either remove the reference to the derived table or do not index the view.
This error message was introduced with SQL Server 2000.
SET NUMERIC_ROUNDABORT OFF;
IF OBJECT_ID (‘dbo.v’, ‘View’) IS NOT NULL
DROP VIEW dbo.v;
CREATE VIEW dbo.v
1 AS c1) y
INNER MERGE JOIN
1 AS c2) X ON y.c1 = x.c2;
CREATE UNIQUE CLUSTERED INDEX cix_v
ON dbo.v (c1);
In the above example we try to index the view dbo.v. Because the view references the derived table y, the error is raised.
