The work-around is to create a backup device on the local disk first, then back up to the backup device. When you create the backup device through Enterprise Manger, you will have to manually specify the path to the local drive (you can’t select it). If you create the backup device using sp_addumpdevice, there is no problem either.
Once you have created the backup device, you can backup it to it using any backup method available through SQL Server.
